2, 3 | All About Water With songs and stories students explore the water cycle, our water resources and the importance of water to life. Students learn easy ways they can conserve this precious resource every day.
Water Puzzle Puzzles and games help students discover the connection between the water cycle, habitats and food chains. Our connection to water helps students understand the importance of water conservation. Themes of friendship and city wildlife correspond with Open Court literacy program.

| California Water Students will learn how the role of water resources, water systems and water usage has influenced the settlement of Santa Barbara from the Chumash Indians to today. A theme of survival corresponds with Open Court literacy program.
Story of Water Students will master information about the water cycle, our local water resources and water as a limited resource. Conservation strategies will be explored by discussing historical challenges in the uses of water. A theme of the New World corresponds with Open Court literacy programs.

3 - 6 | Watershed Model Using a watershed model students learn about water movement through an urbanized watershed, how pollution gets into creeks and the affects it has on the health of the environment and people. 4 - 6 | Creek Kids Series – Two in class lessons and one half-day fieldtrip to both the Watershed Resource Center and to Old Mission Creek at Bohnett Park. Students participate in hands-on activities to learn about the physical, biological components of a healthy creek, watersheds and how they work, sources of water pollution and what students can do to improve water quality. All | El Estero Wastewater Treatment Plant Students interact with plant operators and scientists to get the inside scoop on the strange and interesting physical, biological and chemical wastewater treatment processes. A microscope exploration of microbes gets students up close with these mysterious organisms that help to clean our water. Free buses available to City of Santa Barbara schools. K- 6 | Water Awareness Poster Contest In 2006, with the help of some really fantastic teachers, students submitted artwork to the Water Awareness 2006 Poster Contest. Over 300 students between K-6th grades entered posters.

| Lindsey Young, Grade 3 Roosevelt School Mrs. Rose We were especially impressed by the concepts that Lindsey incorporated into her poster. In this circle of life depiction she illustrates the simple things we can do to conserve water everyday while expressing the importance of water in our lives and the lives of generations to come.
